September 10, 2025 – Washington, D.C. – “I extend my deepest condolences and prayers to the wife, family, and loved ones of conservative leader Charlie Kirk, whom I had the honor of knowing in his fight to defend the principles of our nation and who was tragically assassinated today.
Our nation is strongest when we uphold the rule of law, safeguard liberty, and respect the rights of others. Political violence is not only an attack against an individual, but against the very foundations of our democracy.
As Governor, I reaffirm my unwavering defense of freedom of expression, respect for dialogue, and the right of every American citizen to participate in the political process without fear. Differences—no matter how profound—must be resolved through dialogue, debate, and democratic processes, never through intimidation, aggression, or violence.
In accordance with the proclamation issued by the President of the United States, all government facilities will lower their flags to half-staff beginning today, Wednesday, September 10, until Sunday, September 14, at 6:00 p.m.”
