September 18, 2025 – La Fortaleza, San Juan, Puerto Rico — Workers and entrepreneurs across Puerto Rico will gain free access to technology training through a landmark agreement between Governor Jenniffer González-Colón and Amazon Web Services (AWS).
“We are equipping our workforce and entrepreneurs with the tools they need to succeed,” said Governor González-Colón. “This unprecedented collaboration with tech giant Amazon Web Services establishes a Technology Skills Training Program that comes at no cost to the government, or our citizenry yet delivers immense value to our people. Puerto Rico is ready to leap into the future, and this joint effort with AWS reflects our belief in the talent of our people and their ability to achieve excellence.”
Américo de Paula, AWS Director for Northern Latin America and the Caribbean, added: “At AWS, we are committed to advancing digital skills across Latin America. We are proud to partner with the Government of Puerto Rico to offer free training in disruptive technologies such as artificial intelligence and cloud services to more than 50,000 individuals. This initiative aims to build both technical and soft skills that enhance employability, drive digital transformation, and contribute to Puerto Rico’s growth.”
The Technology Skills Training Program includes multiple self-paced learning paths, completion certificates, over 80 hours of instruction in artificial intelligence and cloud computing, and live sessions with expert trainers. In its initial phase, the program will serve up to 50,000 participants, beginning with students from Puerto Rico’s public school system and expanding to online offerings aligned with the academic goals of the University of Puerto Rico. The initiative will also extend to other sectors through tailored training programs based on specific industry needs.
This effort aligns with broader educational platform proposals aimed at strengthening academic foundations, integrating AI training, and providing citizens with modern, robust, and future-ready learning opportunities. The only requirement to participate is access to the internet via a computer, tablet, or even a mobile phone. With these basic tools, any citizen can update their skills and prepare for the demands of today’s evolving job market. These skills are essential for successful, competitive integration in a world increasingly shaped by technological advancement.
