Isabela, Puerto Rico – July 30, 2026 – Governor of Puerto Rico Jenniffer González-Colón participated today in the inauguration of the new Integrated Health Services Center (CISS, by its Spanish acronym) in Isabela, a modern healthcare facility developed through a $10 million investment using the institution’s own funds. The center will strengthen access to healthcare services for thousands of residents throughout Puerto Rico’s northwest region.
While serving as Puerto Rico’s Resident Commissioner in Washington, Governor González-Colón supported this initiative from its early stages through a letter of support submitted in September 2024, recognizing the need to expand access to medical services for communities across the northwest region of Puerto Rico.
“Access to quality healthcare services should not depend on where a person lives. With the opening of this new Integrated Health Services Center in Isabela, we are taking an important step toward ensuring that families in the northwest region have access to primary care, specialized services, advanced diagnostic technology, and healthcare that is closer, more efficient, and more compassionate. We will continue supporting initiatives that expand access to healthcare and improve the quality of life of our people,” said Governor Jenniffer González-Colón.
The new facility will provide a comprehensive range of services under one roof, including general medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, endocrinology, gynecology and obstetrics, behavioral health, dental services, nutrition, pharmacy, laboratory services, optical care, and home visits. Additionally, the center will feature state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment incorporating artificial intelligence tools to support faster and more accurate diagnoses.
As part of its integrated care model, the center will also provide complementary services such as home delivery of medications, at-home laboratory sample collection, and the TaxCISS transportation program, designed to help patients attend medical appointments without transportation becoming a barrier to receiving care.
The opening of the new CISS will create 100 direct jobs during its initial phase of operations and strengthen economic activity throughout the region, while expanding the capacity to serve thousands of patients through an accessible, high-quality community healthcare model. The institution places special emphasis on serving individuals without health insurance or with limited coverage, reaffirming its commitment to supporting the most vulnerable populations.
The ceremony was attended by Secretary of Health Víctor Ramos; Puerto Rico Cooperative Development Commissioner Liza I. Alfaro Mercado; Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Health Insurance Administration (ASES) Carlos A. Santiago Rosario; Isabela Mayor Miguel “Ricky” Méndez; mayors from municipalities across the region; CISS Executive Director Attorney Damaris Rodríguez; and other government officials and special guests.
