Governor Jenniffer González-Colón Announces More Than $95 Million in New FEMA Federal Funding for the Reconstruction of Puerto Rico's Critical Infrastructure

La Fortaleza, Puerto Rico – July 10, 2026 – Governor Jenniffer González-Colón today announced the obligation of $95,017,916.58 in new federal funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to continue advancing the reconstruction and modernization of public infrastructure across Puerto Rico's municipalities, government agencies, and public entities impacted by Hurricanes Maria and Fiona, the 2020 earthquakes, and Tropical Storm Ernesto.

The funding includes permanent work projects for the reconstruction of roads, bridges, port facilities, electrical systems, recreational parks, public buildings, university infrastructure, and government facilities, as well as administrative funding to support the implementation of disaster recovery programs.

"Every federal obligation represents a project moving forward and another community taking an important step toward stronger, more resilient infrastructure. Our commitment is to maintain a steady pace in the execution of these funds so that Puerto Rican families see tangible improvements in their municipalities and in the public services they rely on every day,"said Governor Jenniffer González-Colón.

Among the approved allocations are:

·       The Municipality of Jayuya will receive $23,106,316.42 under Sections 406 and 428 of the Robert T. Stafford Act for permanent reconstruction projects, including the municipal cemetery and repairs to roads, slopes, drainage systems, and other infrastructure damaged by Hurricanes Maria and Fiona.

·       The Municipality of Aguada will receive $2,607,414.68 to cover administrative costs associated with Hurricane Maria recovery projects.

·       The Puerto Rico Ports Authority (PRPA) will receive $17,836,877.97 for administrative costs and the reconstruction of Piers 9, 11, 12, 13, and 14 at the Port of San Juan following Hurricane Maria, as well as administrative costs related to the 2020 earthquake recovery.

·       The Puerto Rico Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTOP) will receive $2,638,618.77 for the permanent repair of the Culebra Bridge and several bridges and state highways damaged by Hurricanes Maria and Fiona.

·       The Municipality of Comerío will receive $1,184,468.63 for the reconstruction of culverts and roadway infrastructure.

·       The Municipality of Cayey will receive $1,437,516.33 to repair roads, water crossings, and recreational facilities damaged by Hurricanes Maria and Fiona.

·       The Municipality of Añasco will receive $1,438,084.54 for the reconstruction of the Carreras Indoor Basketball Court & Park sports complex.

·       The Municipality of Aguas Buenas will receive $455,209.48 for the repair and reconstruction of a sports complex.

·       The University of Puerto Rico (UPR) will receive $4,191,949.53 for the restoration of the Casa Roig Museum at the Humacao Campus and repairs to the Student Health Services building.

·       The Municipality of Lares will receive $3,395,420.40 for the reconstruction of the Municipal Police Headquarters and administrative costs related to Hurricane Fiona recovery.

·       The Municipality of Orocovis will receive $2,111,959.42 to repair roads, culverts, slopes, and transportation infrastructure damaged by Hurricane Maria.

·       The Municipality of Barranquitas will receive $708,015.25 for the reconstruction of a multi-level parking facility and repairs to culverts.

·       The Municipality of Yabucoa will receive $4,669,834.82 for the reconstruction of Félix Millán Baseball Park, repairs to municipal roads damaged by Tropical Storm Ernesto, and administrative costs associated with Hurricane Fiona recovery.

·       The Puerto Rico Department of Natural and Environmental Resources (DNER) will receive $7,098,366.15 for the rehabilitation of the Punta Santiago Vacation Center and repairs to public buildings and recreational facilities.

·       The Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA) will receive $21,170,111.12 for hazard mitigation projects involving electrical feeders in the San Juan and Ponce regions, permanent repairs to the Costa Sur Power Plant following the 2020 earthquakes, administrative costs related to Hurricane Fiona recovery, and additional mitigation projects throughout the electrical system.

·       The Puerto Rico Mental Health and Anti-Addiction Services Administration (ASSMCA) will receive $380,644.08 to cover administrative costs associated with the 2020 earthquake recovery projects.

·       The Luis A. Ferré Foundation will receive $793,107.99 to cover administrative costs related to recovery projects following the 2020 earthquakes.

Gabriella Boffelli, Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration (PRFAA), emphasized that the ongoing coordination between the Government of Puerto Rico and federal agencies continues to accelerate the obligation of funding for priority recovery projects.

"Our team in Washington, working alongside COR3, maintains continuous communication with FEMA and our federal partners to support Governor González-Colón's recovery agenda and ensure Puerto Rico continues receiving the resources needed to rebuild its critical infrastructure. Every new federal obligation brings another project closer to construction and long-term completion," Boffelli said.

Governor González-Colón reiterated that her administration will continue working to expedite both the obligation and disbursement of federal funds to accelerate the reconstruction of Puerto Rico's public infrastructure and ensure these investments are translated into projects that directly benefit residents throughout the Island.
