November 18, 2025 – San Juan, Puerto Rico – Today, Governor Jenniffer González-Colón announced new federal relief opportunities for farmers and producers who experienced losses due to 2024 disasters, including Tropical Storm Ernesto and the severe storms recorded between April and May 2024. These producers may now apply for assistance under the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Supplemental Disaster Relief Program (SDRP).
The SDRP is funded through the American Relief Act of 2025, approved in December 2024, which allocates more than $16 billion in direct assistance for farmers and producers who suffered income, quality, or production losses in crops, trees, bushes, or vines as a result of agricultural disasters in 2023 and 2024.
The program will be implemented in two phases, and eligible farmers may receive payments in both phases, as applicable, as well as for one or both years depending on the losses reported.
The USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) is already accepting applications for Part 1, while applications for Part 2 will open on November 24, 2025. The application period for both phases ends on April 30, 2026.
As of today, 400 applications have been approved in Puerto Rico under Part 1, totaling $1,294,598 in disbursements.
“As in previous years, this is yet another opportunity for our farmers to receive federal relief for disaster-related losses. I welcome this initiative and encourage producers to contact FSA for more information and to begin their application process. I would like to thank Secretary Rollins and President Trump for their commitment to our farmers and producers, including in the aftermath of natural and other disasters that impact the availability of food and other items across our country.” said Governor González-Colón.
