April 23, 2026 — La Fortaleza, Puerto Rico — Governor Jenniffer González-Colón, alongside U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin, announced the obligation and approval of $32,918,628.73 in federal disaster recovery funds for Puerto Rico, underscoring a coordinated federal-state effort to deliver faster recovery, stronger infrastructure, and measurable results.
“I thank President Donald Trump and my friend Secretary Markwayne Mullin for their decisive leadership in advancing Puerto Rico’s recovery,” stated Governor González-Colón. “With their support, and the continued work of our PRFAA office in Washington driving these efforts forward, alongside COR3, state agencies, and municipalities, we are cutting the red tape, unlocking resources, and delivering real results for our people.”
“These funds are a testament to our partnership with Governor Jenniffer González-Colón and the people of Puerto Rico. By cutting red tape and working together, we are making it possible for communities to rebuild, strengthen and stabilize infrastructure, and move recovery forward,” said Secretary Mullin. “The Trump administration is committed to delivering timely and responsible support so Puerto Rico can recover from disasters and build a more resilient future.”
Public Assistance funds will support permanent work across multiple municipalities and agencies for damages tied to Hurricanes Maria and Fiona, the 2020 earthquakes, and Tropical Storm Ernesto.

Governor González-Colón emphasized that these investments are part of a broader strategy to reposition Puerto Rico as a strong and secure jurisdiction at the forefront of the national security in the Caribbean.
