Biloxi, Mississippi – September 21, 2026 – Puerto Rico Governor Jenniffer González-Colón announced today the obligation of $23,329,759.43 in funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for 10 recovery and reconstruction projects in Puerto Rico.

The majority of the funds, $22,841,243.02, will be allocated for the design and installation of a fire pump system at the Aguirre Generation Complex, operated by the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA), to strengthen the safety and protection of this critical facility within Puerto Rico’s energy system.

“We continue advancing our goal of strengthening and modernizing Puerto Rico’s critical infrastructure. This new FEMA obligation will address a priority need for the safety and operation of the Aguirre Generation Complex, one of the Island’s major power generation facilities. These resources will also support improvements to the electrical distribution system in Mayagüez, our schools, and municipal road infrastructure. I thank the administration of President Donald Trump and FEMA for their continued support of Puerto Rico, as well as COR3 and our agencies and municipalities for their ongoing work to move these projects forward,” said Governor Jenniffer González-Colón.

The $22,841,243.02 allocation corresponds to a FEMA Public Assistance project for the design of fire pumps at the Aguirre Generation Complex, a critical facility for electricity generation in southern Puerto Rico and for the stability of the Island’s energy system.

The new FEMA obligations also include $305,124.05 for five electrical distribution system projects in the Mayagüez Region, under PREPA, covering work across several distribution areas and districts:

·       $98,106.36 for Area E, covering Districts 7901-01, 7901-02, and 7901-03.

·       $87,664.77 for Area C, covering Districts 7201-02 and 7201-05.

·       $51,707.70 for Area A, covering Districts 7004-06 and 7005-03.

·       $39,645.51 for Area D, covering District 7103-04.

·       $27,999.71 for Area C, covering District 7301-02.

FEMA also obligated $164,271.28 for improvements at three Department of Education schools, distributed as follows:

·       $67,902.29 for Manuel Martín Monserrate School in the municipality of Santa Isabel.

·       $53,093.77 for William Rivera Betancourt Vocational School in Canóvanas, under the Puerto Rico Public Buildings Authority.

·       $43,275.22 for Diego Vázquez School in Caguas.

As part of these obligations, $19,121.08 was also allocated for road hazard mitigation work along PR-772, specifically in the Camino Después de Víctor Alicea, Camino Los Arriaga, and Camino Chijo areas of the Cañabón Ward in Barranquitas.

In total, the 10 obligations amount to $23,329,759.43. Of this amount, $22,860,364.10 corresponds to two projects related to recovery from Hurricane Maria, while $469,395.33 corresponds to eight projects related to recovery from Hurricane Fiona.

The Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration (PRFAA), Gabriella Boffelli, emphasized that coordination with federal agencies remains a key component of the Administration’s efforts to advance priority projects for Puerto Rico.

“At PRFAA, we continue to follow up and coordinate the necessary efforts to ensure that Puerto Rico’s priorities remain at the forefront of federal agencies and translate into tangible results for the Island. These obligations reflect the continuity of the efforts Governor González-Colón advanced throughout her tenure in Congress and that we continue to support today from La Fortaleza, in coordination with the federal government and our agencies. We will continue working to facilitate coordination and support the advancement of projects that strengthen Puerto Rico’s infrastructure,” said Boffelli.

Governor González-Colón reiterated that her Administration will continue working with the federal government, COR3, other government agencies, and municipalities to ensure that obligated funds translate into concrete recovery and reconstruction projects.

“Each obligation represents another step in our efforts to strengthen infrastructure and improve the reliability of essential services. We will continue working with a sense of urgency and responsibility alongside the federal government to ensure these resources are used effectively and that projects move forward for the benefit of the people of Puerto Rico,” the Governor concluded.
