Governor González-Colón Announces More Than $1.9 Million in FEMA Funding to Strengthen Energy Infrastructure at Municipal and Government Facilities

July 8, 2026

La Fortaleza, Puerto Rico – July 8, 2026 – Governor Jenniffer González-Colón today announced the obligation of $1,973,106.95 in federal funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to support hazard mitigation projects that will strengthen the operational continuity of critical public facilities through the installation of emergency backup generators.

"Our priority is to ensure that facilities providing essential services remain operational when our people need them most. These investments demonstrate that the strategic coordination between PRFAA, COR3, and FEMA continues to deliver tangible results that strengthen Puerto Rico's preparedness and response capabilities for future emergencies," said Governor Jenniffer González-Colón.

As part of this funding, the Municipality of Patillas will receive $1,050,000.00 under Sections 404 and 324 of the Robert T. Stafford Act for the purchase and installation of permanent emergency generators at four critical municipal facilities: City Hall, the Municipal Library, the Multipurpose Center, and the Citizen Services Office. The award also includes funding for administrative costs associated with the implementation of the project.

Additionally, $386,555.35 has been approved for the Rafael Nicolau Tormenteras Government Center to install an emergency generator as a hazard mitigation measure designed to improve resiliency against future weather-related events associated with Hurricane Maria.

FEMA also approved $536,551.60 for the installation of emergency generators as part of Puerto Rico's recovery from the 2020 earthquakes (FEMA-DR-4473-PR), enhancing the operational continuity and emergency response capabilities of essential public infrastructure.

Gabriella Boffelli, Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration (PRFAA), emphasized the importance of continued federal coordination.

"PRFAA remains committed to working alongside COR3 and our federal partners to advance projects that strengthen Puerto Rico's critical infrastructure. These investments reflect Governor González Colón's commitment to a strategic recovery focused on delivering results and ensuring the Island is better prepared for future emergencies," Boffelli said.

Governor González-Colón reiterated that her administration will continue prioritizing mitigation projects that protect communities, ensure the uninterrupted delivery of essential public services, and strengthen public infrastructure throughout Puerto Rico.
