May 28, 2026 — La Fortaleza, San Juan, Puerto Rico — As part of the national celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the United States, Governor Jenniffer González-Colón introduced Administration Bill 119. The measure directs the Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTOP) to design, manufacture, and issue a commemorative license plate and driver’s license honoring the U.S. Semiquincentennial.
Both the commemorative license plate and driver’s license will be available from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027.
The Semiquincentennial celebration has inspired official commemorative license plate initiatives across various states, including Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, and Virginia. In Puerto Rico, the initiative to commemorate the Semiquincentennial through an official license plate reflects the local community's participation in this historic national celebration and their pride in being part of the American nation.
"The commemorative license plate, driver’s license, and Semiquincentennial memorabilia will allow the people of Puerto Rico to actively participate in this historic celebration. It provides a visible, lasting symbol to express their honor, shared history, bond with our nation, and aspirations for full representation within the United States," the bill states.
The Senate version of this Administration Bill is already moving through the legislative process and is currently awaiting final approval on the Senate floor.
