La Fortaleza, San Juan, Puerto Rico – August 31, 2026 – Governor Jenniffer González-Colón announced today that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has obligated $81,903,943.10 for 59 recovery and reconstruction projects throughout Puerto Rico during the week of August 24 through August 31, 2026.

The new federal obligations will support essential infrastructure across multiple municipalities and government agencies, including public facilities, roads and bridges, the electrical grid, sports and recreational complexes, university buildings, and emergency protective measures.

“Every federal funding obligation represents an opportunity to continue rebuilding Puerto Rico more quickly and advance projects that will have a meaningful impact on our communities. These resources reflect the coordinated work we have maintained with President Trump’s Administration and FEMA to ensure that Puerto Rico’s recovery continues moving forward. I thank President Donald J. Trump, Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin, and FEMA Administrator Cameron Hamilton for their support and attention to Puerto Rico’s needs. I also thank COR3, PRFAA, our municipalities, and all the entities working from different fronts to ensure that this federal investment is translated into rebuilt infrastructure and better services for our people,” Governor Jenniffer González-Colón stated.

The largest obligation during this reporting period is $20,536,866.68 for permanent work at the Prudencio Rivera Martínez Building, headquarters of the Department of Labor and Human Resources. This is followed by an allocation of $10,556,954.54 for the reconstruction of the Héctor Solá Besares Coliseum in the municipality of Caguas.

Among the principal obligations authorized by FEMA are:

• $4,374,833.04 for improvements and reconstruction of municipal roads in the Sector Caña area of Cayey.
• $3,696,589.32 for permanent work at the Valle Verde facilities in Toa Baja, owned by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Puerto Rico.
• More than $12 million for projects related to electrical infrastructure under the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority, including automation, distribution and transmission work, repairs to poles and conductors in the Mayagüez and Caguas regions, as well as emergency protective measures.
• More than $2.7 million for infrastructure projects at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus.
• $2,620,991.24 in direct administrative costs for the municipality of Jayuya and $2,731,265.73 in administrative management costs for San Lorenzo.
• $1,742,214.01 for structural improvements to the Old Post Office building, used by the Office of the Governor.
• $1,682,306.11 for work related to the stabilization of roadway infrastructure in Orocovis, in addition to $970,704.02 for emergency protective measures in the municipality.
• $1,618,648.25 for roadway projects in Mayagüez Region 4, under the Department of Transportation and Public Works.
• More than $1.7 million for projects under the Department of Recreation and Sports.
• $1,001,096.12 for roadwork in the Piñas neighborhood of Barranquitas.
• $527,875.85 for the reconstruction of the Mariano “Tito” Rodríguez Coliseum in Guánica.

Of the total $81,903,943.10 obligated during this period:

• 42 projects correspond to the disaster caused by Hurricane Maria, representing a total investment of $64,692,469.51.
• 3 projects correspond to the Southwest earthquakes, totaling $1,029,210.48.
• 14 projects correspond to Hurricane Fiona, with obligations totaling $16,182,263.11.

The Executive Director of the Central Office for Recovery, Reconstruction and Resiliency (COR3), María L. Marín Colón, emphasized that “these new obligations allow us to advance projects of great importance to our communities and provide additional resources for the reconstruction process. At COR3, we continue working hand in hand with municipalities, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations to responsibly expedite the use of the resources allocated to Puerto Rico and continue transforming federal funding into projects that strengthen infrastructure and improve the quality of life of the people of Puerto Rico.”

Gabriella Boffelli, Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration (PRFAA), highlighted the work being carried out from Washington to facilitate Puerto Rico’s access to federal resources. “The allocation of these resources reflects the importance of maintaining an active federal presence and direct communication with the Trump Administration. At PRFAA, we continue to follow up on and build upon the federal funding secured for Puerto Rico by Governor Jenniffer González-Colón during her tenure in Congress, working to ensure that these resources translate into tangible results for our Island,” Boffelli stated.

The Governor reiterated that her administration will continue working in coordination with the federal government to accelerate reconstruction efforts and ensure the effective use of the resources available to Puerto Rico.

“Puerto Rico’s recovery requires that available resources be swiftly transformed into projects that improve the lives of our communities. That is the goal guiding our work alongside municipalities, government agencies, COR3, PRFAA, and our partners in the federal government. We will continue advancing every initiative with urgency and responsibility so that reconstruction can move forward and Puerto Rico can have infrastructure prepared to meet the needs of today and the challenges of the future,” the Governor concluded.
