Government of Puerto Rico Leads Multi-sector Efforts to Strengthen Health System Financing

May 18, 2026

La Fortaleza, San Juan, Puerto Rico — The Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration (PRFAA), Gabriella Boffelli, provided an update on actions taken today as part of the administration’s strategy to protect and strengthen access to quality healthcare services across the Island.

As part of these efforts, Boffelli, alongside Secretary of Health Víctor Ramos and the Executive Director of ASES and Medicaid, Carlos Santiago, convened the Multisector Health Group at La Fortaleza to continue evaluating federal funding for Puerto Rico’s healthcare system, identify areas of opportunity, and develop technical recommendations aimed at ensuring the system’s long-term sustainability.

“From PRFAA, and in coordination with Governor Jenniffer González Colón, we continue to lead concrete efforts at the federal level to protect Puerto Rico’s critical healthcare resources. This multisector initiative allows us to advance a clear, data-driven agenda to secure the funding our Island needs,” said Boffelli.

Also participating in the meeting was Resident Commissioner Pablo José Hernández, along with representatives from the healthcare industry, private sector, and nonprofit organizations. Participants engaged in discussions on the system’s current challenges and opportunities to strengthen healthcare coverage in Puerto Rico.

“This type of dialogue is essential to align efforts and move forward initiatives that ensure stability, continuity, and access to essential services. We are working collaboratively with all sectors to support the initiatives led by Governor Jenniffer González Colón and to ensure that no Puerto Rican is left without access to healthcare services,” she added.

The PRFAA Executive Director reiterated that the administration will continue advancing strategies and strengthening partnerships at both the state and federal levels to reinforce the healthcare system and ensure its long-term sustainability.
