March 7, 2025 – Washington, D.C. – The Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration (PRFAA), Gabriella Boffelli, categorically denied the rumors regarding an alleged official memorandum circulating within the federal government. The document in question claims the existence of a strategy by President Donald Trump’s administration concerning Puerto Rico.

"There is no evidence whatsoever to support these allegations. Any insinuation of a secret plan to force Puerto Rico’s independence is completely false and only seeks to misinform and divert attention from the real issue: our political status," stated Boffelli.

According to the Executive Director, these rumors emerged following the successful celebration of the first Equality and Statehood Summit held this week. She also pointed out that the independence movement, which has historically been a minority, has felt threatened by the overwhelming support for statehood in the last plebiscite, where statehood received 59% of the vote, as well as by the election of Jenniffer González-Colón as Governor of Puerto Rico.

Furthermore, Boffelli emphasized that these types of controversies are a consequence of the political uncertainty Puerto Rico faces under its current territorial status. "As long as we remain under the current status, we will be exposed to speculation and decisions made without the full participation of the people of Puerto Rico. That is why, alongside Governor Jenniffer González-Colón, we remain steadfast in our fight for statehood, a mandate granted by the people in the last elections. Only through statehood will we achieve full equality and the respect our people deserve," she concluded.

PRFAA reaffirmed its commitment to continue working in Washington to advance the Governor’s agenda and ensure that the rights of American citizens in Puerto Rico are respected and protected.
